Setting the C0!
« on: 21 July 2005, 20:39 »
Ok, may sound like a stupid question  :embarassed:, but if i want my C0 set correctly to 2% (tried myself with no joy) is it just a case of taking it to a garage/MOT centre and they just put the exhaust analyser thing in the exhaust and set the mixture screw to get 2% showing up on the screen?

yes. i took my 8valve to a vag 'specialist' only yesterday to sort out my thirsty, stalling noisy mk2! he was there for 1 and a half hours and he said that my mixture was something like 0.13 where a brand new car runs around the 0.15 mark!! he couldn't set the rest of the stuff as everything else has seized up!!! but, in answer to your question, that's all that is needed.

Cheers Dan,

I thought so

I'll get this set right first, before i start messing around to much!

I got the revs idleing now between 960 - 1020 (which is the recomended) but when fully warm she still sounds like she is hunting the engine still is not smooth! so i am hoping a C0 adjustment will sort this!

Cheers

ok, got her booked into a friends place this afternoon!

now should the red lead be disconnected and the breather hole blocked? when setting the C0,or is it because he is using the emissions machine this is not needed?

Did they use the emissions machine? if so did they take the breather off and disconnect the red lead?

yeh they used an emissions tester/analyser.

Couldn't tell you if they disconnected the breather and red lead or not - sorry!

No worries, got it done and they don't disconnect! :)

Anyway, do you know what they set your C0 to? mine was at 0.15 (very lean) but best was at around 0.80 and it runs very nice now!

But i have been told from the experts here that it should be set to 2.0% - i don't get this

I asked the guy to set it at 2%, as advised by all the experts here.

So I assume that is what it is running at now - but can't be certain!!
