Remap advice
« on: 04 January 2013, 22:11 »
Was thinking about getting my GTD remapped in a few weeks time and the only thing bothering me about having it done is the life span of some parts. One of the lads i work with had his megane sport done a few months ago and it killed his driveshaft within a few weeks, is it normal for a remap to do that or was it more than likely on the way out anyway?

Thanks ste

I'd say the part was probably ready to go anyway for it to happen in such a short amount of time, loads of people on here have re-mapped their GTI/GTD's without any problems what so ever, give Craig aka The Doc a call at Carbon our forum sponsor, mk7 Mod and thoroughly bloody nice bloke! :afro:

Most likely a combo of weak part, aggressive driver and perhaps a very spikey remap.

I did 70k miles on my old Mk4 Golf and 30k in my current A3 and I have never replaced a driveshaft

Considering the amount of remapped cars on the various VW/Audi/SEAT/Skoda forums they aren't exactly awash with people saying their cars have blown up on a stage 1 map.
I've had the pleasure of about a dozen remapped cars now and (touch wood) have not had anything other than a bit of clutch slip on a couple of TDIs done years ago which were quickly mapped back a bit so that the torque didn't spike at 2000rpm.

Put it this way, I see no point whatsoever in getting a turbo car if you're not going to map it, you'd be much better off with a big engine with NA if you're not going to map. Factory maps are as dull as ditchwater and i'd rather take the bus...
