Useless council!!! Or useless Highway Authority
« on: 04 January 2013, 16:16 »
In their infinite wisdom my local council or the Highways Autjority (I don't know which one is responsible) decided in recent months to relay the A63 out of Leeds on the very outskirts. part of it is single carriageway, part is dual carriageway (the old A1). The problem is they did it with that utterly useless stone laying process after which you get the 20mph "loose chippings" signs.
What's this got to do with my beloved GTi? Weell, the wheel arches and rear hatch are covered in tar spots. Now I have to say I've been quite negligent in washing it over the last 2 or 3 months with all the rubbish weather but thought I'd give it a good wash today and I was gobsmacked how bad it was. It took me ages to get it all off.
Why can't the people responsible realise the loose chipping process is a total waste of money cos it doesn't last (a few months on and it's all wearing off already) and also that it's damaging to cars. I hate to think what the underside is like after I've been driving up ad down it all this time. It's a bloody good job I have a grey one - God knows what the white one I originally wanted would have looked like!!!
Sorry, moan over.

Fair point, mine is white, haven't washed it for a while, always a pain getting tar off.

They did the same on the stretch of the A4 which I drive to work on everyday. The result was a chipped windscreen and numerous stone chips on my bonnet. Took VW 2 weeks to order touch ip paint for me! In addition 2 of my work colleagues have also had chipped windscreens and 1 persons screen cracked.

I really don't see the point in it either. Lasts a few months and causes damage to everyone's cars. Complete waste of money.

They did every road out of our village last year, if you stick to the 20mph is not too damaging but the muppets speeding coming in the  opposite direction ping the stones up which do the damage...could happily of lynched a few of them

Local authority did de cul de sac I live in back in August. They used a really fine grade of chippings and the road surface is absolutely cr4p!

5 months on and the surface is still very loose - seems much worse when it's been raining. In some places, all of the surface dressing has worn away completely, so the road is in a worse condition now than it was before it was 'resurfaced'. If the local authority had some spare budget, then it would have been better spent repairing some of the potholes! Couldn't believe they left the potholes, and repainted the white lines in the potholes.

When I cleaned my car last weekend, the amount of tar on the lower bodywork was unbelievable. I didn't have time to clean it off, but fortunately, with my car being grey, it doesn't show too much - but you can feel it; paintwork feels like sandpaper.

Need to get some good tar remover..............

Autosmart Tardis.
Just spraying it on cars that look to have no tar, is an eye opener as all these brown streaks appear from nowhere
