rear standard light coding help
« on: 02 January 2013, 12:38 »
I'm at the dealers trying to get a bulb warning light off, just changed my led rears back to standard as I'm getting rid of the car, and the buld out light has come on saying check rear left and right sidelights. Dealer can't figure it out so has had to send a dis report to VW. As usual they can't solve a problen, has anyone got any ideas so I can tell them their job, thanks

Did you save the original settings when before you adjusted them after fitting the LEDs Paul?
On my 09 car I had the bulb out no matter what when the LEDs were fitted but when I put the standard ones back on before VCDS adjustment they worked fine with no warning lights but were just a bit dimmer than before (a bit like me really!!)

When i fitted mine Steve P came round to do the coding, but i got no bulb out warning, which he was surprised at, may have been as i had some software update done just before i fitted them to do with the alarm going off.
I know there is alot of talk about needing a new bcm on 09 cars to stop the bulb out error, but i seem to be having the problem the other way around after i have put the original lights back on, it says check rear left and right side lights.
Dealer cant solve it so waiting again now for the dis repport answer from VW. I just wanted the car all sorted before its part exed on the 12th, dont want any excuse for the garage to try and knock down the price they have offered me, might have to leave the lights switched off and if they turn the lights on, play the inocent"its never done that before"

Just dont like to pass on the problem to someone else

Byte 18 was at a value of '00' before I coded my LED's in.....BUT... If you google 'VW Byte 18' it's not as simple as resetting this to '00'....bit of trial and error by the sounds of it sadly with VCDS.

I  don't know what the setting for oem is as 00 is a cover valve that hides the true valve.
For some reason 2009 and 2010 cars had byte 18 hidden from the factory but later cars don't.

They might be funny if they know you had LED's and messed about with VAG.COM especially if they can't fix it normally.

Basically they need the factory code for the central electric unit BCM the same code they would use if replacing the unit.
How you would relay this without it causing an issue for yourself I'm not sure.
The other option is contact Ross Tech and ask them what the oem value for RHD is.
They are often active on the vwvortex forum.
Or ask stevep what he set his too when he sold it.

Ive said a VW garage coded the LED,s when i fitted them before i moved, so just waiting for the garage to get the answer from their dis report to VW. Surely it cant be that hard for VW to let a dealer know the original settings for standard 09 plate lights.

We shall see over the next day or so, i have read a fair bit from ross tech about setting the Byte 18 values back to standard 00 but having to then set some other numbers, lets see if VW can work that out.
