hi i have got a 1.8 turbo it is on a x plate so 00/01. its ran fine till now. After I have driven the car for a while the temperature is at about 90 which is normal, when I turn the car off it takes three or four attemts for the car to turn over and re start. When it does turn over it revs itself up and over 4000 rpm.  At this point I have to turn the engine off.  Following this problem I have cleaned the carboretor and put in new spark plugs.  The problem still evident. 


AFTER PLUGING IN . IT CAME UP WITH NO CODES.

 :cool: thank you all that tryed to help it was a temp sensor that needed changing for a new one.running sweet now.

Try cleaning throttle body. Have you checked for fault codes

Sounds like a dodgy crank position sensor. Scan it for codes and go from there

Crank sensor would explain the non start, but strange avout the rev surge. As said above, scan for codes and if you can have a look at the live data to see if your temp sensor is behaving itself, but trouble codes will probably tell you the story.

after pluging in it there was no codes come up

I had a problem on my polo 9n sport. Turned out it was the engine temperature sensor. Not sure if golfs have them but someone might know ha ha.

Ok so no codes. But did you look at the live data like I said to see if the temperature behaved itself?

Just because your gauge says one thing doesn't mean the engine management is reading that.
