VW ones are Bosch?

But they are new, The Euro car parts Bosch units are reconditioned and don't last.

Having already spunked £75 quid away, why don't you do a more thorough investigation before splashing out on a new MAF. Unplugging it is not the be all and end all of diagnostic tests.

Thanks mate. Did you have a rough idle at around 800rpm? When I increase it to about 1200rpm it seems to be fine?

Does not scream dead MAF to me. It sounds more like a vac leak, or a dirty throttle body or injectors.

Your best bet is to find a man with VAGCOM and do a WOT run from 1k-redline in 3rd, logging MAF voltae/airflow readings.
(Only in a safe spot, coz speeding for diagnostic tests is bad mmmkay). Reading in g/s should be approx 0.8*power output.

Ok mate :) cheers. Seems to start up and run fine this morning. I cleaned my MAF yesterday? Will see how it goes. If it develops again I will fined someone with Vag Com. As for the £75 it came up with Camshaft Position Sensor on the fault code reader so best to get it done ha ha.
