Legal advice needed
« on: 15 December 2012, 14:09 »
Car went in this morning to have the down pipe fitted and Revo Stage 2 map.

During the removal of the oem down pipe they have managed to snap two of the bolts meaning that they are unable to refit the down pipe and will now have to drill out the two snapped bolts from the turbo, weren't able to get this down this morning as they shut at 1pm.

Question is, am I liable for this additional labour as its 'one of those things which could happen' or is it a case of their mistake/risk when doing the job therefore their cost to put right, looking for legal response rather than emotional response if possible?

At the moment I am livid as I haven't been given any idea of cost or timescales to put car right due to their current bookings, I was dealing with the mechanics mind and not the manager who I will ring first thing Monday morning.

Your thoughts/input would be appreciated as this is new territory for me, but currently very disappointed.

Thanks guys.

Did they quote you a price before they started the work?

That's their mistake and you can't be liable for the cost to rectify it especially if they quoted you a price beforehand

At the end of the day just don't pay them more than the agreed amount - if they have a problem let them chase you for the money.

Basically it's a new ish car so it should have been straight forward to remove the bolts and they should know these bolts are vulnerable to snapping. They need to be soaked for a good while with wd40. If they did t do it right its their problem and now way you should pay any extra.

Calmed down a bit now and can think clearly.

Yes they quoted 2 hours labour to fit the downpipe and I agree with all of your points.

Interested how the Manager handles it as this will be a good indicator of how professional they are as a business.

Got a few beers lined up for the eve...need them!

Going to see what they offer....had red mist yesterday with how it had been handled, didn't even ring me to advise there had been issues.

Ball is now in there court, hope they don't hang themselves as was planning to spend a whole lot more cash with them......we'll see.

Phil
When i got my exhaust changed on my mk5 a few years ago by Awesome, 2 of the bolts snapped, they said that these come very tight from the factory and sometimes happens, they sorted it at no expense to me,
A good reputable garage should do it at there cost imo

There was cost, I am not happy and will be moving my business to a different tuner, don't want to go into it any more than that tbh, very disappointing.
