Hi all,
What it is, is i while back i bought a 1997/1998 Golf GTI 2.0 16V, when i bought it it wasn't running as the bloke had got water in the ignition coil, i intended to use it but due to the high insurance decided not to, so it's been stood the last time i started it was a month ago, it was slow starting due to the immobiliser which i believe is an aftermarket one but i don't know as the alarm system on it is aftermarket (foxguard) and we've had no end of trouble with the immobiliser and alarm, all of a sudden the car will not crank over and the indicators start flashing saying the alarms going and the immobiliser is active, but no amount of pressing of the buttons on the fob will stop this the fobs have had new batteries, and i was even told by the seller to put one key in the ignition and press the button on the keyfob, did that but to no avail, after spending hours and hours trying to workout what it is to find 3 different things that could be wrong.
1.) Starter motor dead
2.) Immobiliser problems
3.)Ignition barrel wiring dodgy
tomorrow i will be checking to see if it is a dodgy starter (I'll try hotwiring it to see if it cranks) but i'm not holding my breath with that, I've read about bypassing the immobiliser is this possible?? if so how would i go about it because i would love to get my Mk 3 on the road so i can do a VR6 conversion to my Mk2 (if anyone could give me the name of a company that would be able to sort it out for me i'd be over the moon or any details on how to do the bypass) and I'll be checking the back of the ignition barrel for dodgy wires because when i turn the key only ignition lights come on. i don't think the car has a transponder key as the seller had the original key and a spare key which had been made up the day before, that was a little tight but would turn the car on.
If anyone could give me some advice about this problem it'd be amazing
thanks
