No dash/instrument lights - Update
« on: 11 December 2012, 17:20 »
My brother wired in a boost gauge incorrectly, from what he tells me I think he wired in the live and then connected it to the the other wire coming from the dimmer switch INSTEAD of earthing it...Tit.

Now his instrument lights don't work (warning lights work but not the blue glowing ones for the dials/radio), checked all fuses and they are fine. Although he popped the brake light and central locking one which will get replaced....

The coil light was flashing (130PD ASZ by the way), which led me to believe the brake light switch, but this turned out to be fine after borrowing a fuse from mums car.

Any ideas on the cluster/radio back lighting?

Possibly thinking wiring it incorrectly could have blown the dimmer switch? Going to replace and see what happens...

I'd say yes to that mate as the lights don't come on if you have the dimmer switch unplugged

Got a multimeter handy? quick test to see if you're getting voltage from the grey/blue wire from dimmer switch

Ok, there is power to the dimmer switch as when FULL beam put on the cluster and radio backlights come on, then when FULL beams turned off they disappear again.

I am really stumped. Will check all the wiring for a short circuit. Could it be the earthing for the dimmer switch isn't sufficient, hence why you would need full beam to make it work? Or something similar?  :undecided:

There are two wires coming out of the dimmer switch right? He just wired those 2 (not sure which way around) into the 2 wires coming from the boost gauge.

He should have asked big brother eh!  :lipsrsealed:
