Steamy windows!

Now driving the car in less than summer conditions,lol. The car is running great and even starting at -2 and covered in frost, I'm noticing when returning to the car after a short while the whole car steams up almost instantly. I'm putting the fan on but even on three it would barely blow out a candle,and to say the rear demister is slow would be an understatement. Does anybody else suffer this and if so any tips to help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Common issue I'm afraid...


The MK2's are designed to let water into the doors and this can cause issues with the membranes shrinking or leaking...


Tailgates leak too..


Best to have the door cards off and check when the better weather arrives...

Mines the same  plus a dodgy heat matrix its not fun in my car at the mo

i have my rear windows down a bit and this cures it, joys of a mk2 in the winter months i think.

Oh great least I'm not the only one, unfotunatly mines only a two door so no rear windows to open. Gonna have to buy a good squeegee!!

mine too  did all 4 door membranes ,last month & put grease around the rear light seals
but i think my heater matrix is venting steam into the car ,gonna have to change it asap

if the car has had any sort of water leak at any point in time then you can guarantee the under felt in the carpets is damp. the issue here is that it has a rubber membrane between carpet & underfelt, so no matter what you do it will never dry out EVER

you need to strip out the carpets & under felt, & dry it all out properly

other places that cause leaks are from below the scuttle if the drainage holes arent clear, also sunroof drainage channels.

if you can leave your car garaged for a week or so, fill a bowl full of salt (the big 2kg bag) and leave the bowl sitting in the passenger footwell with all windows fully up (ie as air tight as possible) the salt will draw any moisture out of the cabin & into the salt.

I used carlack glass sealant on the inside and get barely any mist. Only slightly mist when you bring in water with shoes now. Once up to temp and heaters pointed to windows the class is clear 

I did use sound deadning as a door membrane so that is another big help.
