Most of the Mk5's are down in price at the moment...and the chassis is a lot better than the Mk4. If presence is a key issue and you want to be noticed, the Mk4 has more of it...its more obvious. Understated and a cruiser...then the Mk5 with the DSG.
I went from Mk5 GTi due to getting a camper...that all fell through, and I had a number of runners in between, but I wanted a GTI again. I decided to wait it out and got a 1 owner ED30 and even in standard form its a step up from the GTI I had in every department. DSG box is sublime and around town or motorway is a pleasure to drive in again. Have a look at DSG fuel consumption arguments on here though. I think they do eat a little more due to the automatic nature of them.
Fuel in an R32 is always gonna be heavy...but if thats an issue dont rule out the ED30 as a compromise. Parts...all should be around without issue and around the same pricing, and whats the insurance difference? Bet not much in it.
