Unless money was no object, I could never simply buy a car just because of the noise it produced!

Turbo torque just doesn't compare with unadulterated N/A back breaking torque. I should be getting my accident compo around Feb (finally) so I've been looking at buying a non running Corrado VR dropping an R32 in it.

I agree with this in principle, but if you could buy an 'Edition 30' and remap it and it'll be some 30bhp more powerful than a MKV R32, along with being some 200kg's lighter, resulting in a cheaper to run, faster and more economical car. Why other than the noise, would you entertain an R32?

+1 above I have a v6 and note is epic no gti will sound as good but my mate has a stage 1 ed30 at 267bhp and it wipes the floor with my friends mk5 r32 which is also mapped! and as for fuel as MS1 said a lot better on the gti.... It is down to choice i wouldnt change my v6 but if i had 2 i would be going gti route

R32's are piss poor in terms of performance, really are unless you bolt a turbo on

noise is nice, but you look a fool when a 4 cylinder whips your ass.... especially when its something like a mk3

if i was to get a mk5 it would have to be a GTI oe GTI ED30...  much more scope to do stuff at a decent cost

Not really a valid arguement there Brad, as mk3s never had a Turbo that wasn't "Bolted on"

Why would you buy a 3.2 Audi TT when you could get a 20vT Audi TT??? Ok the 3.2 is slightly more tuned in the TT than in the R32, but its still the same engine.

Its just the age old N/A vs FI arguement at the end of the day.

dont no why everyone loves the turbo so much i went from a 4mo to a cupra r yeah the cupra r is faster if your in the right gear if not its shocking, the v6 is a much better drive smoother dont have to move up and down the box every 2 mins, also the 4wd of a 4mo r32 for everyday use in english weather its worth that alone over the gtis.

miss my 4mo every day since i sold it,but cant aford to sell and buy another.

and would be a mk4 r32 for me over the mk5

end of the day its each to there own everyone has a personal preferance!

You really need to get that map sorted on yours mate coz when mine had the K04 and carbon map it was instant power in every gear

Much better than a lazy v6 dragging aload of weight about

As you say, it's personal preference. I just think theirs better NA cars than what comes in the vw's

IMO i would choose a r32 mk4 or 5 any day over a gti.. R32 more exclusive and garenteed to put a smile on your face everytime you drive it :) i personally would go mk4 to save the extra cash for the lpg conversion.

typical 'its not the fastest golf' forum response. Helpful bunch you lot

I prefer the interior of the mk4r to the mk5

Throttle response it brilliant whatever the gear or revs ( cant comment on the dsg) which helps overtaking etc

Personally id go mk5 if budget can stretch to a good example

Dont lose your dinosaur!
