brake pedal going hard
« on: 01 December 2012, 22:16 »
started to notice that after i have used my brakes quiet abit, when i press the pedal again its realy hard & the car slows down but not the way it did before the pedal went hard.
been told its brake fade? whats that?
been told my brake fluid is boiling?
been told its the master server?
my pads need chaging soon but theres 4-6mm meat left on the pad.
anyone help outings?

thanks

Time for pad change mate if your burning them up,defo brake fade you getting, not enough meat on the pads to take lots of harsh braking,a layer of gas builds up between the pads and disc stopping full contact between them, get some quality pads and discs on there

It could be but the pedal will be hard from as soon as you start the car. Plus most likely to go soft. If anything it would be brake servo not assisting, but again it would do that from as soon as you start it.

I hate green stuff because they do fade when hot and it doesn't take much to get them hot, also don't work from cold

Greenstuff pads don't work from cold?  must admit i don't get that..
I have em fitted allround, i new they weren't the best, i even knew the pad material had changed slightly for the worse but still, for your general stopping capabilities i don't see where they compromise unless your on a racetrack..
Sure your pads aren't just contaminated..?
I've seen too many folk going ott with wd40 and acf50 around brake calipers.

Green stuff need to warm up before they give a good bite. There for don't work when cold, just like they don't work when they get hot!

Crap pads.

But by all means great for low brake dust on some nice wheels.

Really i've no idea where they show up as that bad, at least within my normal type usage that is.
I suppose any road brake pad will show deficiencies if pushed to the limit, i don't notice where they are failing otherwise i'd have to change them probably, it must be me.. but the braking is supurb for my needs, though taking into account the whole braking system.

Your pedal is soft because you have no pad left and the piston is travelling further.
It goes hard because you have taken up the slack and are then getting contact on the disc.
The braking is crap because the pads have no meat on them and overheat, also you have worn the grooves off the discs which means they are too thin for the calliper........
Pads have a vent in the middle of the friction material to let the gas layer out, when this is gone or worn away you lose contact pressure....

Green stuff are sh!te.

think i have confused you guys lol
the brakes are good & brake pedal has a decent push when im driving but after using them realy hard a few times to slow/stop the car they go realy solid if i press again to slow/stop my car.
could someone explain to me what brake fade is?
yesterday i had same problem again, the brake pedal went hard after i used them to slow/stop my car, what i did this time was press them realy hard & it felt like a bubble in the pedal, the pedal only went down less then halfway & then felt the abs kick in & then the pedal went all the way down and stopped the car.
when the pedal is realy hard & i cant push more then halfway the braking is like sh1te & the car wobbles about lol (best way to describe it)
green stuff is good, they do let off VERY low dust compared to some pads out there
