On Dave_iow's Golf2 we've fitted CDA shafts and the cups off the CDA gearbox as well.

That's the five speed box that was on his Golf4 originally, so should work with the engine.... BUT it's probably going to be as long-geared as the CDA box from the ABF as I think you'll find later cars aren't geared for 'sprint' like the Golf2 was.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

A 3.6 FD is std in an ABF box, you can put a 3.9 or a 4 in which will gear down the output of the box in that it will turn .3 or .4 times more per revolution.
The std 8v box has the same FD ratio but is geared a bit lower through the range....

Are you sure you did not have a leaking seal when the clutch started slipping? it only takes a drip or two of oil to get into the friction material to make it slip at peak torque.
I have run a modded KR before with no slip, granted it does not have the torque of a turbo which is a big factor but you should just be lighting up the wheels rather than slipping :undecided:
AS DH says the later boxes are designed to give economy / higher top speed but with a hike in torque that a map/more boost will give you then a longer box makes more sense as you can use the torque to more effect.

gears are taller and you don't have much power.     get it mapped so it has some torque to make use of the gears

will feel quicker with a 020  as previously said 020 is lower geared and flywheel assembly is much lighter as well as whole box is lighter  - but made of cheese
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Brilliant thanks very much guys does make sense now you have explained :) will be getting it mapped soon as well .. And now i think about it yes i did have a leak on one of seals so that could of why it been slipping i just put it down to the 198k box i bolted back on tho to get the car driveable.. Thanks everyone :)

would be rude not to put a 4.2 fd in there
