Estate Tuning ?

Hi all, just bought myself a Mk4 1.8T estate as a sleeper project and I've got a few questions ?

I'm looking for a Rod friendly 280bhp with decent chassis to match so I'm after some suspension info,

Is the estate the same suspension setup as the standard hatch, had a search but no conclusive answer as some people say no because of the weight. Only looking for updated dampers and springs as I want the ride height close to standard maybe 10-20 lower at most ( it's being badged up as a 1.6 and maybe beetle steels and trims to allow for 312 brakes) 

Also on the back end is the rear anti roll bar the same ? If so I'm guessing that I'd need to go towards the stiffer end of upgrades to allow for the heavier rear end ?

No one ever done any chassis mods to the Mk4 Estate ?

I know nothing about estates but I don't think hatches have a rear anti roll bar. People add one as an upgrade.

Why do you need to k ow if the suspensions is the same?
I imagine that the standard units are different due to weight but I would think the fitment is exactly the same the same as I k ow the bora unit are the same fitment.
But surely if you buying after market stuff just buy the ones for your car??
Golf doesn't have a rear arb but people add them to reduce under steer and are a simple bolt on to the team beam using supplied brackets.

Sounds like a good project will be good to see the progress you go through

I didn't realise they don't come with ARB on the rear as standard  I haven't been underneath mine yet lol

I was looking to keep the budget quite low on this as its just my daily, so I was hoping to get second hand stuff if possible. Hence needing to know if suspension parts are the same as the hatch or Bora so it widens my search field. Looks like I'll be forking out for decent dampers/suspension kit

and then replace them a few months later when they're knackered  . They're nowt but false economy.

I disagree with that. JOM's are good for the money. Mine lasted 2 years you just have to maintain them as you would with everything.
Pre-instalation makesure everything is tight and greased up nicely.

Mk4 Golf/Bora and estate's all suspension parts are interchangable. So go through UKMKIVS through DPM performance and get your JOM's for £150 delivered to your door with have 2 years warranty.

Obvisously there are ALOT better suspension set ups out there but it all boils down to your personal budget.

Are you taking from past experience or Chinese whispers??
Yes they are less reliable then some kits and yes the arnt as good but you can buy three sets for the same price as othe Enid range kits.

They are less reliable but still last 2 years or so and if they don't you can get new ones on warranty!
For people who don't have £600 to throw at us pension in one tho they are a great alternative!
