Ordered a Mark 7 Today.

Interesting same month I bought the gtd was just looking at p/x value I have 46k on the clock, question is does the diesel hold its value better? Sounds like a good price for the gti mind if selling privately would expect an easy 14.5k. Cheapest listed is about 16k and I would have said that's a 2009.

when the GTI is handed over in March I would expect 45 to 46,000. The GTI is around 49% of it's value after three years based on 12,000 a year taking that to 36,000 so I'm around 10,000 over the so called norm. The dealer will need to make a profit so I reckon he will sell it on for 14 to 14,500. The ral figure to look at is the figure to change. So a mark 7 with the extras I want is 8,000 which I think is a fair figure. Sure I could have sold privatly , however living out on the country a car is needed. Then the problem of time wasters before you get it sold. To me handing over the keys of the GTI for the new Golf apeals.

Handing over £8k just to have a new Golf, which is way down the rung compared to your well spec'd GTI. Fair enough "running costs" etc, but surely £8k would get you a good while out your GTI until the new one comes along.

I don't doubt for a minute you'll be eyeing up the new GTI once it arrives and will end up further out of cash as a result of the premature switch. I genuinely don't think you'll be making your £8k back any time soon with the newer car. If anything, you'll be lucky to break even.

Guessing you did not read the post where I wrote the daughter is going to Uni. For me it’s important she leaves Uni with no debt that will please me more than any car can. Years ago went from a GTI to a 1.9tdi Vento. Also went from an Audi A3 sport to an Outlander. It’s no big deal from my side.  Thought we were going to get an UP ! The fact a mark 7 golf is coming spaced up the way we like is a bonus from where I stand.

I did though, that's why it doesn't make sense. You're having to PAY an extra £8k. £8k that would be in your pocket if you kept the GTI. Unless by "my daughter is going to Uni" it means you have extra cash and fancy a new car, I can't see the logic in buying it.

I can't understand how spending £8k on a new car will save you money either.

Thought my reply’s were valid. So will try and simplify it a wee bit more.
The lower running costs of the SE model far outweigh that of a GTI particularly on fuel as we do above average miles I don’t better much than 34mpg. Then you have the cost of Insurance which is half of the GTI. Road tax.
Bottom line is I am not struggling to pay the 8,000 to change the car. I also happen to like what I am getting very much. I never keep a car more than three years.

Lastly if you have not driven a Golf 1.4 from 120bhp up I suggest you try. The engine weighs a lot less than the GTI so when driving down a twisty B road makes the car feel more nimble than the GTI thanks to the loss in weight . Would understand you harping on about the GOLF but to keep going on about having to change to a mark 7 loaded up with extras for around 8 grand is getting tedious.

You are the one that appears to be justifying the change of car by telling us that it will save you money that you can spend helping your daughter through university. That's the sort of line we spin our wives when we want to go out and buy something that we don't really need, when the truth is, ultimately the reverse is true.

I have driven a Mk6 with a 122ps engine and was pleasantly impressed. I'm sure you will be very happy with the car, but you really don't have to justify your reasons for buying one to us. Especially when we all know that the reasons you are giving don't stack up.

Only because I was asked why the SE model down from the GTI. Just cutting down on the everyday running cost. Of course would love to get the next GTI but will make do with the SE.

I get that and agree that a new SE will be cheaper to run than a new GTI.

We all know that the money you are spending to change would run and cover the depreciation of your current car for a good few years, but if you had planned to buy a new car anyway, all is good.

In terms of running costs, there's a PCP deal at the moment giving free servicing for 3yrs/30k miles if you order before the end of the year. Normally £300ish I think.

The order has moved from ‘processing order’ to ‘build week confirmed’. In the Q&A section it say’s the Golf will be built in 4 weeks. So would imagine the car should be in the uk for Febuary
