Interesting same month I bought the gtd was just looking at p/x value I have 46k on the clock, question is does the diesel hold its value better? Sounds like a good price for the gti mind if selling privately would expect an easy 14.5k. Cheapest listed is about 16k and I would have said that's a 2009.
when the GTI is handed over in March I would expect 45 to 46,000. The GTI is around 49% of it's value after three years based on 12,000 a year taking that to 36,000 so I'm around 10,000 over the so called norm. The dealer will need to make a profit so I reckon he will sell it on for 14 to 14,500. The ral figure to look at is the figure to change. So a mark 7 with the extras I want is 8,000 which I think is a fair figure. Sure I could have sold privatly , however living out on the country a car is needed. Then the problem of time wasters before you get it sold. To me handing over the keys of the GTI for the new Golf apeals.

Absolutely mental if you ask me.

Handing over £8k just to have a new Golf, which is way down the rung compared to your well spec'd GTI. Fair enough "running costs" etc, but surely £8k would get you a good while out your GTI until the new one comes along.

I don't doubt for a minute you'll be eyeing up the new GTI once it arrives and will end up further out of cash as a result of the premature switch. I genuinely don't think you'll be making your £8k back any time soon with the newer car. If anything, you'll be lucky to break even.

Guessing you did not read the post where I wrote the daughter is going to Uni. For me it’s important she leaves Uni with no debt that will please me more than any car can. Years ago went from a GTI to a 1.9tdi Vento. Also went from an Audi A3 sport to an Outlander. It’s no big deal from my side.  Thought we were going to get an UP ! The fact a mark 7 golf is coming spaced up the way we like is a bonus from where I stand.

If everything looks bang tidy and she runs well, keep the golf and run her for 3 years(they do last that long), lob the daughter the 8k + regular amounts that your not forking out on depreciation on the new car.

In 2004 I had approx £27k worth of Student debt after doing a Masters as well and it is a bit of a pain paying it off so I salute the sentiment and accept everyones finances are their own and unique.

61 Plate GTD 5dr, Shadow Blue, 18" Charleston's, Flat Tyre Indicator, Cruise Control, Bi-xenon (With Dynamic Curve), Storage Pack, Winter Pack and RCD 510.

I did though, that's why it doesn't make sense. You're having to PAY an extra £8k. £8k that would be in your pocket if you kept the GTI. Unless by "my daughter is going to Uni" it means you have extra cash and fancy a new car, I can't see the logic in buying it.

mmm ?
Your quite amusing.
If I could not afford the new Golf I would not get it.
If I did not want to sell the GTI I would not have changed it.
If I could not support the daughter at Uni I would have nether.

Got the order number from the dealer. At the moment order is just being processed dealer still say’s three month.

Been speaking to the normally useless local dealer who is saying January delivery, suprised you got March, or did you want to wait for new reg?

The largest wheels on the SE model available from VW are 17’s. Anyone know if putting on 18’s from the GTI would be a problem to the handling of the car as the SE is a comfort car not sport. I know I have to tell the insurance.

If you ordered 17" wheels on the MK6, it automatically comes with lowered suspension (well Match spec with 17").

I have not seen what happens with the MK7.

Now = 2011 MK6 GTI - Reflex Silver
Past = 2006 MK5 GTI - Tornado Red and Solid Black

Spoke to a mechanic say’s the current GTI wheels are on the next GTI which means same fitment. Told me my 18’s should not be a problem going onto the SE with no lowered suspension. Really pleased as these alloys were very expensive with the silver and black against the white SE with dark windows and a panoramic sunroof

Order still in process would imagine it will stay that way until a load of British orders come in , just a thought.

Monzas's did not do it for me Jimble that's why I got an after sales set. The 17monzas with winter tyers will be on for the paert exchange I'm not going to spend money in a new set of tyers when the winters have plenty tred.
