Head Unit options for Mk5 Golf
« on: 24 November 2012, 19:59 »
I have the default stereo supplied with a Mk5 Golf TDi (Match) at the minute. Obviously this is pretty basic and I need a few extra 'features'. As I'm not particularly confident in replacing parts in cars, I'm after the easiest possible solution and one which doesn't effect the 'interior' of the car - after the upgrade, I want the finish to look identical.

I was considering a Pioneer head unit or an RNS510 but wondering if my car will, as standard, supply enough power to something like that? Would it be an in and out procedure... no messing around with cables at the back or needing extra blanking plates to make the interior look flush. The benefit of this, though expensive, is that everything will be in one place and I won't need to buy a new sat nav (my TomTom decided to whistle, smoke and consequently die a few weeks ago). Also, is the sat nav comparable to that of a Garmin/TomTom and the like?

On the other end of the price spectrum, what would be the easiest way to add an aux-in for my iPhone to play music? After quickly googling, it looks like the stereo is the RCD 300.

Pioneer and Kenwood both do almost factory looking head units but you can't quite beat keeping original equipment for looks!

You can take your chances on an ebay buy or go to places like

www.oemretrofits.co.uk or http://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/
Buy site stuff!
GolfGTI.co.uk - merchandise
