struggling to select gear , VR6

clutch pedal fell to the floor today, i lifted it back up, and from that point on the gears became very difficult to select if at all, when i got it on the drive even with clutch pedal all the way down, the car still crept forwards.


what do you reckon?

Check ya fluid level first mate.
If thats all good then there is a chance your clutch cylinder is on the way out

Fluid levels ok, would that be the master or the slave cylinder ?

The slave tends to be the one to go mate, take it off, put your thumb over the inlet and push the piston, if there is good compression there, then its not likely that, so then its the pita to change the master 
Have you had to top up your fluid lately? Have you tried bleeding the clutch?

Only picked the car up this morning.

Make sure your brake fluid level is well above the minimum mark, the clutch is fed from a pipe that comes from the right hand side of the reservoir, about half way up the bottle. If it is then you can have a go at bleeding. On the top of your gearbox, just underneath the linkage, is the slave cylinder. On the nearside of the cylinder is a bleed nipple, connect your bleed kit, undo the nipple and push the clutch pedal to the floor and then pull back up, repeat until there are no bubbles in the fluid.

right finally got around to swapping the slave and that had no effect, pedal still drops to the floor, how do you go about changing the clutch master?

Put a hose clamp on the hoses going to and from the clutch master to minimise spillage. Unbolt old master then bolt in new, re-attatch hoses. Bleed system through making sure you have plenty of fluid in the reservoir as said previously. It's not too difficult, just a bit fidly. Brake/clutch fluid dulls lacquer/paint so if you have a freshly sprayed or very tidy engine bay then cover the areas around where you are working. Wash off with plenty of water if you spill anything.

Is the master unbolted from the inside ? Do I need to take dash out?
