Go Pro Footage...

Beers it is then me old sunshine! How would I transfer the data to you? For example the raw footage for the last video we got was 2gb and there's no chance that's coming through on an email. I suppose I could always use one of our older usb sticks and put it on there and send it to you and then when you're done with it, you could send it back.

And don't you go morphing the driving footage with some cutaways of some dirty old 70's porn star with a great big hairy growler. I know what you meant by 'known to make a good video'....we've all been there. #filthyf**k*rs

OK, by support I meant something to support the camera.  It depends how stiffly sprung your car is and how heavy the camera is, but you don't want shake on the footage, which is what the support is there to eliminate.

As an example I'm talking about something like this (which I appreciate is rather more serious):

but it might be something as simple as a broom handle gaffer-taped to the mount, or if it's mounted on the windscreen, just a pencil with the rubber end on the dash!

Obviously it all depends on the size and weight of the camera.

I'll just stick it on a usb, it's wholly more appropriate than waiting around like a cnut for something to load. Please also bear in mind that I live in Devon, thus the upload speed is almost non existent

Yeah you're not wrong that 'Manfrotto' is a tad extreme, although some piece of kit. Not sure what it's doing inside a 'Montego' 

I think I can work the support out, so as to eliminate 'shake'. As you suggested a broom handle, gaffa'd right up is probably the way forward. The camera weighs 143 grams, so not a lot.

I don't know if the cheap 'mounts' that I linked have long enough 'arms' to stick to the windscreen, enough to be able to rotate the camera so it's at least facing the right direction. It'll probably have to be a window mount.

Out of interest, which of the 'mounts' that I linked do you suggest would be the best purchase.

Holders - you had a link to a go pro style suction cup. My experience thus far is that the go pro suction cup is awesome. Saying that cheap imitations may not be but if you plan to solely have it on the inside of your car you probably won't go wrong. You mentioned about the arm being long enough to face different directions - it definately should be. The arm can extend and you definately can have the camera facing whatever angle you want. You may have to edit the suction position it should work.

I'm sure DH will give a slightly more technical and better explanation than me.

From Herts, I would come M25, M3, A303, A30 (especially at night, it'll be uber fast, watch out for rozzers in Wilts though) and then you're in Exeter or if you're boring M25, M5 bosh! There's nothing like the 'Blackdown Hills' on the '303' for serious turbo rape!

Yeah I think I'll wait for DH to expertly advise on the suction mount. As you say seeing as it's 'in car', I'm probably okay with a cheap one!

You're not wrong that footage is sh!t, but at least you can hear the motor and whoever's driving is giving it plenty. You ought to come and test your mettle down on the twisties in damp ole Devon

From Exeter to wherever really. Just looking for a nice drive in the evening. Mate wants to see what the cars about. Someone wrote off his MX5 so he's looking at a gti - i'm trying to convert him!

I've only come back via the M5 once. Alway the A303/A30. I always get the why are you doing that way from my mates, I try to explain but they look at me blankly. Last time going through the Blackdown Hills part we got stuck behind a massive queue of cars who refused to overtake a tractor doing about 20/30. The small dual carriageway parts were used to good effect. The wierd little 3 lane stretch (the one that has loads of accidents on apparently on - Ilminster Bypass??) was a nice little run too. I remember heading down thinking I have to get in front of everyone as I don't wanna sit in another massive queue. Just about did it. Didn't look at the speedo :/

Well If I was you and you wanted a relatively 'rozzer and speed camera' free zone. I would find your way to Clyst St. Mary (near J30 on the M5) and then take the A3052 all the way to Lyme Regis/Charmouth and then hook up with the A35 going Westbound towards Honiton, then you can re-join the A30 at Honiton and be back in Exeter in 15 minutes. All in all it's a 50/60 mile trip, but can be covered in an hour if you know a decent driver

Tripod mounts are universal thread-wise, thankfully - the GoPro adaptor thing just has a tripod thread in it.

If you're bored on the A303 at Stonehenge blat up the A344/A360 to Shrewton, then take the B390 through Chitterne - it's VERY open.  At the A36 you can either nip back down to the A303, or hop up to the B3095 to get back to the A303.
