Gearbox Problem
« on: 15 July 2005, 20:56 »
Hi everyone just found this great forum and learnt alot already but i have a question regarding my gearbox

First off car details
MK3 2.0 (Agg) GTi 8v Anniversary
Problem is since i have had the car about a year it goes into all gears fine without a hitch drives good
but it jumps out of reverse is this a common fault or does anyone know what could be wrong ???
I am a mechanic but work for fords if these boxes are easy to fix i may have a go but would prefere to get it done by someone who knows the boxes

Thanks

I am in the chester area if anyone knows anywhere to go

It sounds like it's in need a strip down but I wouldn't advise you attempting it unless you have access to the special VW tools required to strip and rebuild it and all the relevent setting up data required( I rebuilt VW gearboxes in the past and they are not as straight forward as some other makes

I think in the long run you maybe better off getting a REPUTABLE gearbox specialist to do it as you'll get it turned around a lot quicker and also get it guaranteed for 12months at least

Does my arse look TOO BIG (to fit) in this (forum).... or was it something I said ?

The only thing is i have heard the ratios are all different i really want the car as standard (for now)
Anyone recommend anywhere to get it done ???
Got a quote from a local guy he said £300 for the reverse or £500 for complete overhaul
A bit on the expnsive side i think ???
Anyway any where local to chester or if you know somewhere i can get a re-con box please let me know

Thanks
