Induction kit.. what should i get? (yes im new)

hi all iv been looking at these forums for a while and this is my 1st post (yay).

iv just got a 1999 1.8t golf (fallen in love with it)

Im going to be getting some kind of induction kit and cant decide what one to get.. everything points to getting a carbon filter with a cold air feed as opposed to having the filter down in the bumper.. living in wales there is alot of back roads and puddles to splash in that will soon ruin the filter down there.

I think the other option is to just have some kind of heat shield but im not sure whats the best one to look at here. is it a good idea to get a heat shield and put a custom cold feed in if i can find room?

The other problem i have as im sure most people have is im on a budget so under £100 is a must  

any links and suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

P.S going for a red engine bay so anything with red pipe or carbon etc would be spot on

On your budget I would go for a Pipercross panel filter in the standard air box also maybe look at a cold air feed.

hmm would this just be a slide old out slide new one in? then cut some kinda feed into the box?

Also would this give me some sound?

Exactly that, remove lid and replace. 

Not sure how much sound it would give you. An induction kit gives more sound that a normal panel filter...

I'd suggest a pipercross panel filter and a little adjustment to the airbox.
I cut a few ribs out the opening of the airbox to increase the flow.  Still utilizing the standard ducting.

Makes a lovely sound from the DV and a nice induction growl.

If your looking for a little extra noise take out the under bonnet soundproofing. All it does is increae under bonnet temps.

If someone can post up the max G/S of the standard filter and inlet snorkel I can see if it flows any better

I may well give that a try, However been looking at various reviews and descriptions and the lack of sound may be an issue for me. I will try and look into it more.

Are there any good options for the induction kits if i decide against the panel filter?

I can hear the valve opening at 70mph down the motorway. It's loud enough!

Don't get me wrong, I haven't turned my airbox in to a piece of Swiss cheese. Just opened up the mouth.

I did alot of time consuming research in this area, then I gave Ramair a call and spoke to a very nice fellow called Ryan. He explained to me the he had a 340bhp Mk4 turbo and he had a custom setup where he put a bigger induction on and used a reducer.

I asked him about the cai pipes and he said there more for looks and dont need to be used, he said that using the setup you see below he didn't need any kind of heat shield or anything, it cost me £59.99 posted and imho, it was worth every penny.

If your insisting on have a induction kit for the sound get a r-tech kit , comes with a heat shield and they tested it on the dyno and it gave good results.
