That diesel ticking noise when idling
« on: 28 October 2012, 14:04 »
ello, i kno there is a thread for this but still

all of you that have noticed this, do u run your car on v-power?
because im sure mine only started to make the noise after i topped up the tank with it. previously topped up with tescos 99 stuff didnt notice it. although i did have the cambelt changed last month so i'll probs be popping it back just to get it checked over. but yeh just thought id ask it.

More likely to be the cambelt tensioner than v-power - fairly common problem, but normally associated with worn tensioners - did they replace the belt only? How about the water pump?

Could be the HPFP follower getting abused by the lobe.

Just FYI my Gti's fuel injectors tick quite a bit louder on V-Power than say Techron or Ultimate, so it could be that.

I remember when I first bought the car, I thought something was f**ked with it, because it sounded like a GTD!

and they're only £30 from the dealer so probably worth changing anyway if it's never been done. i've always found the FSI engines to be very ticky though
