« on: 24 October 2012, 21:06 »
Having just taken delivery of my ed35 And racked up 400 miles this week I was wondering what other are experiencing in MPG? I am sat on 28mpg trip from Cheltenham-London-mid Wales.

I've had ed35 since Jan and can say it's not so good on the MPG and my last MK6 GTI.  Your trip reading is about right at 28mpg I'm afraid.

A long run you might get 30 odd MPG, However if you boot it you can just about see the gauge dropping down...

Saying that I love the motor and that's the price you have to pay for a good car...

im surprised its so low, i usually average around 38mpg doing about 80mph on a good motorway run on my MK6 GTI, i thought the ED35 would be very similar seeing as it isn't a massive power increase

I'm shocked at your figures guys, a tank average for me is 33 mpg, Ive managed a 40 mpg journey to work once or twice but this was proper miss daisy driving! I did start a post of this before but got slated, ha ha!

And I'm sure we will get slated again...

I can get 30 odd mpg but you have to drive with a light foot on the pedal...

Nearly 3000 miles I haven't averaged less than 30 over a tankful.

Hammering it does kill the mpg though! Use super unleaded, it lets the engine go into stratified mode more, using less fuel

Unfortunatly the Ed 35 has the older engine and isn't as efficent as the GTI. (Well I think anyway).

How do you guys average 30+ in an Ed35.. I'm on 27mpg and that was with a couple long runs pushing it up... and that's a standard GTI and I run 99 RON.  That said most of my driving is town or A roads when I can give it some, I hardly have a light right foot.

That's about what I average in standard GTi, maybe slightly less on same fuel, but nearly all town driving and rural roads, some A roads, occasional motorway.  I too am surprised at figures of 30mpg upwards but I guess if you're doing longer runs that's the difference.
