Those roads in Scotland are ace! I hired a Caterham SV for two days and just nailed it. Brilliant fun and great weather which made it.

Nice one!

I managed 39mpg on my journey to work today, I tested myself and that's a steady run sticking to the speed limits inc dual carriage way etc.

That must of been a painfull drive!

Tbh it's quite chilled, the roads I go on I sometimes never see another car and I use that time to properly wake up

Never over 30.... I ve come to accept this now. I did have one run on the A9 where I got to 35, but blew it all away on a 10 mile B road. On Shell V Max I get about 360 to a tank, with cruise on 70-82(...). Just got back from a 1,000 mile trip from London to Scotland and over to the west coast. What a car...! Had an empty car for parts but 4 people and fully laden with luggage for others on some of the greatest roads in Scotland (tarbert to Crieff, via Lochearn). I was amazed how well it pulled, in 3rd and above 5,000 rpm it jumps to overtake. I had a 9hr drive and felt absolutely fine afterwards, it didn't put a foot wrong. Practical, fast and comfy...honestly can't fault the car. That's my little VW love in over.

Ive just done the A9 to Inverness and return to Lithgy via Ft William and the A82. Round trip of 400miles and not quite driving "Miss Daisy"  and the odd overtaking thrash  but managed 36.1mpg

Never had better than 35 when really trying. Often get 30-32 but my average over 12,000 miles is 30. ED35 doesn't reward by being careful so I have stopped trying and just have fun.

36!!! You must have a light right foot or a very well behaved car. Agree with this last post.....we didn't buy these things for MPG. What's the difference with a few 2 or 3 mpgs amongst friends...

Now days if i get a anything in the 30s then i have been well behaved.

The only good thing on a cold morning is make a bit of 4pot noise with the whistle  of the turbo adding to the experience.

If i wanted 40mpg+ then would of gone for the GTD but i wanted something fun before fuel reaches the £2 marl.

Alot of reviewers say the mpg is a bit naff for this car...I've just had a 1.2 Fiesta for a week in southern Italy, over the week that averaged 7.2 l/km...which is 36mpg. And I was driving carefully...partly cos it was a bit rubbish compared with the Golf, but mostly as the fuel was 2 Euro's a litre!!!

I'll bet if someone followed in the Golf the entire time, so doing the same driving, it would easily be into the 30's. Not that bad I reckon
