i brought the car a few months ago , And when i go to use full beam only one light work and the other one dulls down or stays the same on sidelights , any ideas ? its a 90 spec

Earth connections ? mines 1986 not sure if yours is the same but
under the dash slightly above the fuse panel near the ignition switch
is a multiple earth connection block , give em a clean up

I have this same problem so i assume you mean the light switch take that out the dash and give them a clean ?

no not the switch
there is a terminal block with several earth connections together
that's riveted to the body
also the golf has separate fuses for left & right headlights
plus high & low beam
it's a dub thing

so there is a fuse for each headlight , as when i go for high beam as in click the stalk for flash , it just swaps from one headlight to the other
