That sounds f**king ridonkulous. The guy/garage sound like a bunch of clowns who don't know what they are doing. Why the f**k would oyu need to order a standard airbox from GERMANY!?  I've seen them on ebay for christ sake!

Name and shame and when you head in to pick it up take a lot of confidence and argue like a women!

I told him it felt like a electrical fault, it was like putting the brakes on when it boosted  i know a bit about them thats why i took it to specialist as i couldnt diagnose it myself,  had vagcom on it etc, no fault codes..   so it probably was the ECU at fault, but it didnt need a turbo  that worked fine before   yes the sump bung was broke but most garages now use the vaccuum to suck the oil out on a service (even VW do this)
the only thing i said go ahead and do was the turbo as he assured me it would run fine and that was at fault.

so hes fitted all them bits and now it turns out it was the ECU,   still hasnt rang up with a bill after he said its running fine

Do not pay the bill and tell them you never authorized any of the repairs, see what happens after that.

Man up and tell yourself he aint having my pants down!

VW specialist should only charge for the parts that actually fixed your car. Everything else tell him to take off and send it back for him to refund. Its not your fault he cant fix diagnose the problem first hand therefore why should you suffer the costs!

His problem so he can sort it out.  That is what id do if I ever had to take my car to the garage.

That's outrageous.

£1400 to rebuild a turbo is nonsense even with labour! I can almost assure you it wouldn't have been a faulty turbo! Ecu????? Nope very very unlikely. Why not buy a second hand one off eBay for £50 to test the theory... Personally suggest you check the ecu is actually a brand new one as I bet it isn't and ask for your old one back as well.

Air box???? Unless they meant maf...

And to do this with out your consent is appalling!

I suggest when you get the bill, post it up.

tell him you never authorised the repairs to be done with the extra costs.  He wont have a leg to stand on.  Trading standards on your side here too.
