valv guide issues tend to crop up around the 100 isk k miles

valves wobbel in the guided  will cause poor seating but more noticale is the smoke,  tends to kill the stem seals quicker  and once thats gome more oil can get down the stem as te guide is sloppy
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Hay lads thanks for all the input, I did a little test by taking the pipe off the crankcase breather on top of the rocker cover and blocking it up, turned the black valve to face away form my nice shiny manifold and then took her for a drive!!! Got home opened the bonnet to find oil all over the gear box??? so the leak is coming up through the breather on the rocker, witch says to me worn piston rings and getting to much crankcase pressure??? But my compression tests are sweet??? Can any1 explain the stuck ring and what it might mean^^^. Guna drop the oil and do a change this weekend I've got the rocker cover of and soaking in the chemical bath at work before I paint it so that should clear the metal filter in there!! Look forward to your answers.

id get yourself a new breather assembly, its fair chance its just banjo'd, its meant to be a one way valve allowing gas out but not fluid.

or at least get a lend of one of somebody local

do you know the history of the car? stuck ring is just that, its stuck so doesnt expand. you could try somehing like Forte Engine Flush but be warned flushing can do more worse than good if it dislodges big chunks of stuff especially if you dont know the history of the car.

drop the oil and stick in 10w/40 and do it halfway see does it still blow oil out. its odd ill give you that!

Me thinks too many cooks in the kitchen?
Take each logical step new breather for a start!
Compression good so rings are good as for excessive oil are you sure you just don't have a dodgy rocker seal?
Stem seals will cause excessive oil but you cannot confirm untill you strip and inspect so get the tool box out and inspect it???
No one on here can answer you unless you take the rocker off and head so you can do wet tests on piston chambers and inspect the valve stems. Either way closer inspection is needed to solve your woes!

Happy days, picking a new breather valve ( black disc ) up tomorrow, so I split the old 1 at work to find a rubber ballon like valve then under that a hard plastic cup like washer then a spring, the hard plastic 1 is broken in 1 place but all the way thorough, so I guess under pressure it would let oil through who knows???

I have the rocker cover off and have a brand new gasket, how do I do a wet test? And what do it test?

She is booked into the PHIRM on the 12th just for a good old look over and make me up a list of todo jobs!!! Hopefully it's not to long/ expensive so I can get on with some fun jobs like paint and power!!!

Wet test can only be done with head on a bench, you turn it upside down, close the valves down then fill chamber to level with petrol, if the level drops you have leaking valves.

Breather change coupled with oil change and take it from there!
