Exhaust tip diameters
« on: 13 October 2012, 16:51 »
Hi guys,

Who can help me out....what is the standard diameter of our exhausttip on the MVI.

I am planning to take them a bit bigger.......... sheer looks.

I am in doubt between 90mm and the sometimes enormous looking 100 mm (Milltek stage II)

I ve googled like crazy .......before asking

Can you remove the tips on the Gti?

With a hacksaw, yes.
Then fit what you want with the aid of a TIG/MIG welder!

..but gaining motorcycles.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a back box with bigger tips?

That depends on whether you want something noisier, non-standard, with potential insurance implications and something potentially warranty destroying.

If you have access to a TIG welder, you can buy a pair of stainless tips for £2-30 each off eBay and weld them on in a couple of hours - exhaust removed, tips cut off, new tips tacked on, exhaust fitted to check for fit, exhaust removed and tips seam welded up, then it re-fitted...all with the back of the car jacked up.

Far cheaper than a shiny (and expensive) replacement back box.

Well on the MKVI they are 80mm I find that way too small...probably just to make a difference to the R...

Anyway I have ordered the 100mm Milteks....that should do the job...especially after the ABT tuning those bigger tips are far more in place and as a bonus coming way out nicely with the standard cut-outs of the valance
