Its a decent unit, and you have the newer replacement for the previous DA-01. They made a few detail refinements to the one you have. Not ALL apps are compatible but its still a very versatile unit.
Fits like any other radio really. the DOUBLE DIN aperture in MK 4 golfs and above are generally ok for size and the original mounting frames are ok to fit into golfs aswel.
Of course the drawbacks are it dont have a removeable panel or front screen...nor is it a cd unit.
But once mounted properly, it looks nice and flush.
It can also work with android phones aswel although you do require a different adaptor lead for whatever handset being used which pioneer can supply or other sellers online.
I like it and think its rather clever, however, it is an acquired taste and not to everyones liking.
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???

Of course Mk5s and 6s need fascias due to radio shape and size but connects2 and armour auto manufacture fascias for both models.
Mk4s are standard ISO plug connections so you should potentially be ok for connections...however anything newer will require 40 pin quadlock connector as well as fakra aerial connections. and a separate ignition feed from fuse box.
