the auto mk2's are one of the least appealing mk2's to new drivers or boy racers so have likely never been ragged or driven hard, the fact it's an auto given the way the "older generation" drive grinding gears and staying in 3rd at 63mph down the motorway and riding the clutch then you won't have any of these issues with the auto, that said, the driver in general is a cracking little car, if you get the 1800 then it's pretty much already a GTI replica, they were given the quad lights and arch trims of the gti for less money, if you get anything carb related make sure the first thing you do is get rid of the pooburg carb for a webber if it's not already been done, other than that it's just the usual mk2 things to look for
