DPF light on - Update: Now Sorted - I hope!
« on: 30 September 2012, 19:29 »
Diesel Partical Filter light came on today for the very first time which I'm surprised at as the car has had a real mixture of town/rush hour driving as well as some motorway bursts (maybe the bursts need to be longer?) only last month we need lots of 'appropriate' driving whilst up in Northumbria too.

I'd mentioned to Mrs Buck around a week ago that the car seemed a bit more sluggish and choppy than normal - maybe this was why?

I'm going to take the car on a motorway run tomorrow after work to clear the light and hopefully restore the performance to normal. Car is still in warranty if there is an issue

Yes I know...should have bought a proper GTI -

Yes, lots of cycles here too (32k miles) which hasn't been a problem before now. Will see how I get on with my 5 miles at 70km/h. :) might give it a motorway blast.

Not a Golf, but my Leon has been faultless since brand new and now on 36k miles. My understanding was that the new CR engines were much improved over the original PD lumps.

Hope you can get sorted with dealer

Could be a sensor thats gone wrong  :undecided:  they usually fail which then stops the DPF being regened and then it gets clogged completely.

Good point Rhys.

I'll see what it's like after it's run out then it might be a visit to the dealers. As I said in my earlier post it has felt a bit lumpy for a little while. I had the cam sensor go previously and hope at worst it is something as simple as that.

Top tip right there.

I've not seen a dpf light on a CR engined vehicle ever

Get it booked straight in.  Going on a run won't cure the underlying problem

I've seen the engine management light on one; my mate picked up a 10 plate A6 170 CR on Thursday.  Light came on on Saturday; its the Exhaust Gas Pressure sensor   Car has done 36K........

As it happens I was speaking to an ex Audi technician last week and he was saying about DPF, apparently 3k on motorway for 3-5miles should clear it out, I don't know how true that is, strumbled on the topic in new posts and just thought I'd add to it
