You got whatever VW had done the best deal on at the time. Most are Dunlops, next are Bridgestones, the Goodyears or Michelins if you were lucky.

I've got the noisy Dunlops. I've just fitted Hankooks to my Passat and have to say they are as good as any Michelins I've had before. They will definately be going on the Golf next, it's just going to be a long wait as it only does around 5000 miles a year.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Mine came with Dunlop Sportmax from the factory,
Changed them to F1s and found them noisy and not very grippy, my last 2 sets have been Yokohama Advan Neovo and I have found them to be best tyre for me, really grippy, quiet, and surprisingly good in the wet also,
But now the weather is starting to change I will be putting the winter willies on soon, Vredstein ultrac's

Mine came with Dunplops, hated them, uneven wear and horrible road noise.

Replaced them with Goodyear Asymmetric II's and they are superb.

My GTI came with Bridgestones, hated them!

My R has Dunlop Sport Max GT's, and cannot fault them!
