Plastic gets brittle with heat its old most people butcher them off to gain access to timing markers when cam belts are done.
I'm happy they at least tried to see if the markers lined up properly so job done!
Plug is cheap as chips to replace any DIYer can do this with a bit of drilling and pulling.
Most people don't even bother with the green dust cap unless you can't pour oil into a car without pissing it everywhere like a dick

I would have charged him an extra days labour just to order a new plug and to fit if I knew he was a thingy about crappy plastic bits that are 20years old

Bad day? mmmmmm
Everyone has a bad day

Stupidity is met with the response it deserves.

The OP isn't that new on here. Everyone can search, on here, or on Google to avoid looking like a moron.  This avoids being treated like a moron.

Simples.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Only to retaliation. And by that I don't mean feeling the need to retaliate purely because someone isn't that clued up on a subject. Especially if that subject is something they require advice on.

She only looked like a moron in your eyes and a select few others and that was because you highlighted her shortcomings. If you had just been helpful and put your verbal anger to one side, then we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

thanks for that, they are a bit far from me but the garage have sorted everything now so its ok.

Do you know what, women are not naturally clued up when it comes to cars, i developed an interest in vws, golf in particular when i was learning to drive and have tried my best, reading magazines, goingon forums and working on the cars myself to learn stuff about them.
I can repair bodywork, surface rust, rubbing down, filling and spraying and I can change body panels and parts. I can service my own car, plugs, leads, oil filter and have had a go at brake pads and exhaust changing with help from a strong pair of hands, i dont think im doing too bad actually so take the piss outta me if it makes you feel good.

I actually would never work on a gearbox or clutch myself because I know my capabilities and its obvious im no expert and to see a plug on a gearbox and assume it was for filling with gearbox oil was not a bad guess really. fair enough it was wrong but did i actually do any harm by guessing wrong.... no!!

Your arrogance is unbelievable.
Just what is your problem?

To the OP, it's not a big deal, but the garage SHOULD of reported it..
