vr6 or 20vt?
« on: 16 September 2012, 12:27 »
Hi guys i am thinking about buying another mk3 shell instead of welding up mine as its fubar!

I just looked at the list of parts needed and it says a 2.0 16v is the best option car

The donar that i have found is a 8v 2.0 :(

My current car is 2.0 16v that has been coverted to a vr! Would it be easier to covert the new donar to a vr or get rid of the vr and go for a 20vt, just thinking the 20vt can get more HP than a vr

cheers Rob

I looked through the list of whats needed, It was more the should i just transfer all the vr stuff out my current car to the donar or should i just sell of the vr lump with everything and start with a 20vt turbo

the vr engine is a little dated but is 20vt that good engine? i have never driven or been in one!

I'm doing a 2.8 24v swap from the mk4 4motion. And with cams, head work, light bottom end and a remap I should be looking for +260bhp with no turbo issue to worry about. And the sound of a r32

How comes you chose the 2.8 24v 4mo lump over a 20vt?

That is one thing the vr etc have the sound track :)

20vt s gonna be the fastest

non turbo means weak torque and thats what wins the the races

would be easier for u to convert your 8v to VR6 TBH, and wont cost you anything

to go 20VT properly is gonna cost you a fair bit.. i do have a engine for sale tho with all the bits you would need from the donor car (engine, loom, ECU, Gearbox etc etc)

I personally would not swap my current engine set up for any other in my mk3

Thats what i was thinking, i could probably sell my vr engine as a package but i dont think it will cover the costs of a 20vt conversion

My vr has schimmel cams and a schrick inlet

How much do you want for all set up out of interested?
