FuseBox Maintenance
« on: 06 September 2012, 10:53 »
Hi all,

All going well, doing as much as I can with the mk2 with thanks to your help.

I've been looking at the fusebox as there are some odd issues when engine runs (constant clicking noise coming from dash, no indicators).

Looking to replace and renew as many fuses and relays as possible.
I have taken a picture of what it looks like now and wondered if anyone had a guide map for the layout?

Also, to test the fuses do I just put an electrical tester on each pin terminal?

Kind regards,

That's perfect ;) Thanks.

Am I right in saying I have the C2 kind?

Kind regards,
Richard

Looks like it...

If your hazard switch is on the steering column it is a CE2

Thanks, yes hazard is on the column.

Bit confused on the layout though, am I missing a section that goes above the fusebox? Or, is it indicating the relay part number I put in the position? i.e. relay part number 19 goes into position 1 on fuesbox?

Seems I am missing a lot of relays?

Relays 13-24 can be fitted onto (above or below) the CE2 main box... If you look at the descriptions you'll see that most are for " Factory Extra's"

I see,

So what relay part number (the number which visible on front) would I fit into position 1 on the fuse box?

Many thanks,

List of relay numbers, don't take this as gospel though, refer to the relay location guides above if possible!  Let me know if you know any more numbers or any below are incorrect:

1 = carb inlet manifold heater
2 = fuel pump (MK1 & Early MK2/Rocco K-Jet, no rev limiter)
5 = shift light and MPG gauge
17 = x-over relief (disables most ign live items while engine turning on starter motor)
18 = x-over relief (disables most ign live items while engine turning on starter motor)
19 = front wiper intermittant
20 = rear wiper non-intermittant (when you push the stalk forward, it'll only wipe once, no intermittant!)
21 = hazard/indicator
23 = switched relay, often used for electric windows
24 = switched relay, often used for horn or fogs on older models
30 = MK3 (GTI 8v or 16v?) ECU
31 = 'time control unit' fan control (fan after run)
32 = MK2 digifant ECU
33 = headlight washers
36 = headlights on warning (possibly seatbelt too?)
42 = coolant level sensor control (pre-90 & digifiz dash)
43 = coolant level sensor control (pre-90 & digifiz dash)
53 = misc equipment ignition switched (horn, fogs, leccy windows etc)
57 = k-jet 8v idle speed control relay
61 = decelleration cut-off for carb models
62 = fuel pump (Later MK2/Rocco/Cabby K-Jet, built in rev limiter)
67 = fuel pump (MK2 digifant, 16v and MK3 models)
72 = rear wiper intermittant
79 = ABS system relay
80 = fuel pump (MK2 digifant, 16v and MK3 models)
83 = control unit for syncro freewheel lock
90 = fuel pump after run control unit
99 = front wiper variable intermittant
103= glow plug
104= glow plug
109= early VR6 ECU relay
133= aircon
147= aircon
150= starter motor
167= fuel pump (MK2 digifant, 16v and MK3 models)
174= rear wiper
179= ABS control unit relay
191= hazard/indicator
192= intermittant wash/wipe for models w/rain sensor
204= 40a, fog lamp, electric fan etc. pinout compatible to 53
213= fan, assume radiator?
370= fan, assume radiator?
372= fuel pump relay, 97-05 Passat
389= intermittant wash/wipe
407= rear petrol flap
409= fuel pump relay, 02 Golf
644= x-over relief (disables most ign live items while engine turning on starter motor)

No :) just used it as an example of which number relay to get.
So would I get a relay (suitable for golf mk2) with a number 1 printer on the front?
At the moment I have a number 72 relay in position number 2 which I am sure is wrong.
