Installing 6x9s to a 2 channel amp?
« on: 05 September 2012, 14:42 »
Basically I have a Kenwood BT60U head unit and the 6x9s were wired up to the head unit but I've decided to take them out from the head unit and wire the 6x9's direct to the amp, my problem is I only have a 2 channel amp (Kenwood KAC 6203) and the sub woofer has already taken up 1 channel.

The 6x9s are Vibe 69.2 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vibe-Slick-69-2-6x9-6-x-9-inch-Car-Speakers-2-Way-420W-/260642240377)

The Amp (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kenwood-KAC-6203-2-Channel-Car-Audio-Amplifier-600-Watt-/250736352362?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a610d1c6a)

Not sure on which model the sub woofer is but it here is a pic if anyone knows

Is it possible to wire the 6x9s to the amp or would I need to buy a separate amp? If so I could pick up another KAC 6203 but how do I run the 6x9s to a separate amp? Would I need a Y splitter for the RCA cables and then a distribution block for the live & ground etc?

Any help would be appreciated

Or should I just scrap the 6x9s and finally upgrade my front speakers and rear speakers and hook them up to a separate amp?!

I'm looking on eBay for some component speakers, but I have no idea what I'm looking for, could anyone help me?

At the moment I'm looking at these:

These any good?

Have a budget of around £70 for the front and £70 for the rear?

HELP

I'd say the cheapest solution would be to run your 6x9's through the 2 channel and buy a dedicated amp for your sub. Do you only have the one set of rca outputs on the back of your headunit? If so then you would have to y-split them as you've said, with a distr block for the power etc (for the earths i usually tie them into one of the rear seatbelt bolts as its convenient!). I know in general 6x9's have a bad rep but I was always a fan of the vibe stuff. I remember vibe doing a great set components for up front but I think they were a bit on the pricy side, perhaps a bit more than your budget.

I like these 6x9s they were loud yet clear but now I got the sub & amp I've just decided I'm going to sell them and upgrade my front speakers and get some rear speakers and hook them all up to a separate 4 3 2 amp

Any recommendations/links to any good component speakers for front and rear mate? Also what amp should I be looking out for to run my front & rears?

Scrap the 6x9's. Get a decent set of components and amp them up. The only speaker you want in the rear is a sub.
