A lot of people think mine is a mk4, well usually girls or people who are not thst savvy

It was love at first sight for me with the Mk5 GTI back in 2005. 103,000 miles later I'm still in love and having test driven (40-mile laps) the Mk6 back-to-back with my Mk5 I don't like the Mk6, aka Mk5.5.

The PH list on the Mk7 has some features which already put me off but we'll see.

All those detection and assistant features, and especially "Speed Limiter", do not bode well.

I've only just made the switch to a mkvi. Probably means I'll get a MKVII when the viii comes out!

I too didn't like the mkvi when it came out and the only one I'd consider is the one I ended up with. There's bound to be a MKVII that is right for me at some point.

The MK2 and MK3 rears look similar at times.

Everyone will flame but when they are a mild distance away the shape of the window and position of lights are very similar.

has anyone else noticed that the lifespan of each variant is getting smaller and smaller... the difference in years between model releases goes something along the lines of 9, 8, 6, 6, 5, 4.. hardly seems worth it... especially after you have to wait so long for one with the special lights and checked seating combo that you ordered... and the GTi came out even later didn't it?

makes the point of owning a new GTi seem even more pointless

If the gti comes out later  with each variant then the time between the release of the GTi will surely stay the same  :undecided:
Golfgti build quality is average at best.

If the GTi is released 6 months after new variant release then you would have to wait until the new variant had been released for 6months until you could get a new GTi.

Eg mk6 released 10/08 mk6 GTi released 5/09, mk7 released 10/12 mk7 GTi released 5/13

All times are approx but you get my jist

I'm purely talking about the gti in reply to it being pointless owning a new GTi

you've missed my point entirely... timeframes between model releases are becoming shorter... and with the release of the GTi variant being later than the model new model release, the amount of time the new owner has of owning the 'latest model' is being reduced.

it doesn't matter about the timeframe between GTi releases, as people will only concentrate on the release of the new model, whether or not there is a GTi in that release... so if you have a GTi it will still become 'the old' model at that point.

Point taken !the moral of this story is if you want a GTi get in early,I purchased mine in June 2009 .
