MK7 details from official sources
« on: 01 September 2012, 16:42 »
Firstly Moderators we need a MK7 subforum on the 4th September when the car is officially released.

I've copied this from the PH forum:

Multicollision brake = no idea

Speed limiter

Front transverse diff lock = is this good?

Touch with proximity sensing = capactive touch for the ICE?

Progrssive steering = maybe good

Automatically folding mirror = at last Seat have had this for ages!

LED fog lights = sure to be an IMMEDIATE PH favorite

PreCrash = are VW borrowing technology from Minority Report?

Park Assist 2

City emergency braking = old

Fatigue detection, old but first for small hatch?

Traffic sign detection = old hat

Park pilot = what is this?

Dyanmic Light Assist = high beam thingy from BWM?

Lane assist = old, but first for small hatch?

Front assist = help please

Adaptive crusise control = old, but first for small hatch?

Electic parking brake = standard on some MK6s

Driving profile selection = normal comfort sport?

Cylinder deactivation = good

Deluxe climate window = tinted windows?

Panoramic sunroof = old

Ergonomic seats

Run-flat tyres = these better be optional!

Ambience lighting = in 1000 colours please

Just looks like a mk6 golf crossed with a scirroco.

I remember when VWs were cool.

MK1 + 2 similar looks, MK3 + 4, MK5 + 6 so I thought the 7 would be very different, obviously not!

I'm so glad I got a MK6....but those pics are pure speculation, final judgement will be preserved until there are official pics and I have seen one in the dealers...

"There's a new infotainment system, too, which uses a 5-inch display on entry-level models, a 5.8-inch colour display on mid-level cars and a massive 8-inch WVGA screen on range-topping models. While they’ll all be capable of controlling the audio and air-conditioning settings, high-end versions will feature 3D sat-nav and be combined with new ‘Heptactic’ touch, which senses your finger approaching the screen and switches from display to operating modes.

This is part of the increasing customer demand for technology: “We feel Haptic Touch is brand relevant. Phaeton has the same,” says Head of Electronic Development, Dr Volkmar Tanneberger.

The touchscreen can also be used to zoom in on maps, for instance, as well as select music from a 64GB hard-drive. Bluetooth, USB, auxillary and SD card connectivity, as well as the ability to read all file formats, ensure Golf owners won’t be without music."

Here is the real detail official technical briefing;

Tonnes of info on all the major parts.

The GTI won't need more BHP if it really is 100kg lighter.

like you i hated the mk5 when it was released, ive owned one for the last 3 yrs and love the car to bits, im not keen on the mk6, but tbh give it a year of driving the mk7 and working on them im sure i will love it, i read thro the list above and all i see are major issues that in 4 yrs time im gonna have to understand how they work when they start playing up

It was love at first sight for me with the Mk5 GTI back in 2005. 103,000 miles later I'm still in love and having test driven (40-mile laps) the Mk6 back-to-back with my Mk5 I don't like the Mk6, aka Mk5.5.

The PH list on the Mk7 has some features which already put me off but we'll see.

All those detection and assistant features, and especially "Speed Limiter", do not bode well.
