Exhaust Rattle
« on: 29 August 2012, 18:24 »
Hi, So i have done some searching before you all ask but i need some clarification, My exhaust is vibrating at certain engine speeds and sounds like crap.

I have checked the heatshields that cover the floor and they are no where near the exhaust and all secure

Its possibly the cat internally or resonance from some where else but it looks in good condition so i suspect not.

Im also suspecting the headers but do the headers have a heatshield and how is it attached - is it bolts or can it be welded. Is this the part i could put a big jubilee round and tighten up, and where should i attach at the base where the cat bolts on or further up as its pretty tight back there?

Thanks for any advice
Adam

A common easy problem is that a stone could be trapped in between the short crossmember at the rear of the cat. Always worth a check.

Heatshield on the downpipe. Mines rattled at 2500rpm
that was the problem

Mine was the downpipe heatshield as well. Got a small G clamp on it & left this in place. Just wondering..do you really need a heatshield?

Get the jubilee and put it on the bottom of the downpipe heat shield .

I removed my heatsheild and heat wrapped the downpipes. Common issue as the metal is so thin.

Did you remove the heatshield in situ or with the downpipe disconnected?
