Going back to the dealers soon!
« on: 29 August 2012, 12:12 »
Heard today pulling off my drive a rather alarming noise which sounds, from past experience that the diff is on its way out

To further bolster the issue being the diff it only happens on full lock, in both directions. Heading back to the dealers as we speak...

Is it a squeak or a grinding type sound as I've noticed the latter on mine?

It's a grind.

It actually sounds more like the old haldex couplings used to when they were about to go.

Going to go back to the dealers today. They were pretty hectic when I turned up yesterday and I was already late to be going to Silverstone so didn't get chance to do anything. Will report back later

Could be CV joint related with it happening on full lock.

After what I've found scouring the internet it sounds the same.

However, it's stopped doing it now. So it's not going back until it starts again. Thinking about it, it only did it in the torrential rain we had on Wednesday and on Tuesday after i'd cleaned it. Water related? The next time I hear I will get it in the dealers and report back.

So it only appears to make the noise...when the dealers are closed, ie, on a night.

Another theory it could be though is the clutches. It sounds like the rattling clutches on bkes with dry clutches as they start to engage as you set off. The DSG is dry as far as I know so another possible theory?

I will take it back and find out what they say when it's doing it when they're open...honest!

Nope - wet clutches.
