missus has a mk4 90hp tdi and its a really nice drive, could have more grunt but it goes well enough, i serviced it the other week and now she averages 55mpg, i bought a golf g60 the other week and ive not seen 25 mpg. if you are doing high miles its deffo a no brainer. also the tdi has 150k on it and still runs mint.
mk2 bright blue met bits wanted in north west.

you could look elsewhere, other than VAG on the tdi front?

I owned an x-type sport se. 2.2d. custom remap to 220bhp and 440nm of torque. I used to average 43-45mpg on the motorways and used to clock over 25k miles a year. If driven sensibly 50mpg+ is more than possible.

it was a great car. mondeo engine so totally bulletproof. the only thing i ever had wrong with it, was the dreaded 'dpf' and once that f**k*r was taken out, i had no more unexpected bills. average service used to cost less than £200. i had 35k out of set of goodyear eagle f1's and had 55k out of a set of brake pads too!

the car was quick too! 0-60mph in under 7 seconds, easily capable of cruising 120-130mph.....if you're a nutter that is!

couple of 'similar' examples here....don't know what your budget is, but this is a lot of car for your money. you could easily sink the same amount of dough into a laguna, 407 or some other heap of sh!t!
