ive been offered some lowering springs for a good price, they are not sure if they are for a mk3 estate or mk4, will these still fit on my mk4 or how can i tell if they are mk3 or mk4, thanks

Mk3 rears the spring goes around the shock, mk4 they are separate.

The rear springs do not look like MK4 ones to me
