How do you know if the top mounts need replacing? I've hit a knock/clunk coming from the front passenger corner every now and again, does it sound like it could be the top mounts?

Most probably top mounts, cheap and relatively easy to change just make sure you drown the top nut in wd40/plusgas for a few days before you start.

Ok, thanks for the advice. Just looking on gsf and I see that there are top bearings too, are these worth changing at the same time?

Go on eBay for the mounts and look for a seller called tierod69. He sells great quality stuff, loads of us use him. And yes bearings too, they come with the top mounts usually.
