clutch slipping even after a new one fitted :s !
« on: 16 August 2012, 17:35 »
Hi guys, when I fitted the new engine to my gti the first time I drove it the clutch was slipping badly, so I just had a nightmare changing it today, went for a drive after the brand new one was fitted and its still slipping?? Does anyone know why? Would it be the flywheel or can the clutch be adjusted at all? Any info much appreciated. Thanks

when you fitted the new clutch did you take it out the box and just fit it straight on? as they have oil on them in the box so they dont rust so you should clean them with brake and clutch cleaner first.  if you did clean it.. clutch pedal ok? crank oil seal not leaking? everything fitted back as it come off?

yeah i did clean it before fitting, and i fitted it exactly the same as the old one came off... clutch pedal seems fine as well, and i havent seen any oil leaks. :S  just seems so werid.

yeah ide give it a drive up and down the road a few times see how it is, could just be a little bit of grease or something left on...

unless its slipping really bad?

Are you sure the crank seal was all ok, if it is weeping oil then it will cause the clutch to slip.

is the new clutch and pressure plate the sam make as the old one? did you compare new and old as some pressure plates vary in diameter and thickness. For example a Luk kit may be slightly different to the sachs which is another reason its best to buy a complete kit which includes a new DMF

is the crank seal near the actual crank itself? i did compare the old and new clutch and they both look exactly the same, and its undrive able because its impossible not to make it slip... so could this be the flywheel? because im tempted to just change that for g60 then put a vr6 clutch on.

you would have needed to sit old and new side by side to notice a difference in thickness, the crankshaft seal is behind the fly wheel. did you clean the flywheel with brake/carb cleener,? was ut scored at all? are you sure you fitted the friction plate the right way round? it would have either oben or flywheel side stamped on it

yeah i did that and didnt notice any difference, i didnt notice any leaks anyway :S  and the flywheel looked fine and i did clean it before fitting the new clutch, and i did see that said flywheel side etc and double checked it was the right way round.
