Car died this morning
« on: 14 August 2012, 12:37 »
Hi all. This morning I put my key in the ignition and the dash went dead. Nothing would happen. I also tried locking the car etc. and nothing would happen.

I then had the bright idea to unplug the negative terminal on the battery. The sparks were quite small meaning possible low voltage?

Anyway, hooked it back up and the car started...why did this happen??

Corroded battery terminals?  Loose or broke earth lead?

Well it started fine once i reconnected it and I've never had this issue before.

I was worried about starting it after I had stopped at a client's workplace approximately 10 mins drive after the incident but it started fine...

How can I test if it is indeed the battery on its way out? May be related...but my trip computer seems to dim and brighten randomly recently

I did have a look and they don't look burnt out - or is it something internally?

Lol come to think of it...I do get slow wipers

You should see if you can grab yourself or borrow a volt meter, this would give you a clear indication if its your battery :)

Cheers all

I'm going to get my voltmeter across the battery at some point

Also check the earth and then possibly look at the fuse box. It really has started dimming a lot!
