just the relief of not having it sound like crap!!!! very pleased though! Stuck a cone filter on while the bonnet was open!

it was just well and truly in there!! Few (gentle) love taps with the hammer and hey presto, the noise that has annoyed me since having the car has gone!! Turned it about 10­° and clamped it back up! checked with the vagcom lite and its now reading from block 7

Glad you got it sorted. What was the noise that the car had?

It sounded like a blow from the exhaust manifold, a bit like an air cooled engine, but was pinking. Its still there a bit, but i hope a fuel filter will get rid of that.
