NaiL in tyre
« on: 11 August 2012, 20:19 »
Hi everyone
Noticed my rear left was losing pressure substantially. Looked down there is a big nail stuck which is letting air out.

It's annoying also because the tyre is in perfect condition otherwise (Michelin ps3).

Would you change just that one or the other rear one at the same time? I'm asking because I normally change all 4 and never ever had a puncture.
I wouldn't want the car to drive strange with 1 new tyre and the others not (although only 1 year old)

Thanks
Fed

Depending on the nail's position, a repair may be possible...

Get to your nearest tyre specialist and they will tell you if it's repairable...

you should be looking at something in the region of £20 to get it fixed (if it is repairable)

thanks will go there tomorrow morning.
hopefully it can be repaired. seems to be in the "repairable" area of the tyre....let's hope so

Its its in the 'meat' of the tread then it should be repairable.

The closer the puncture is to the sidewall the less likelihood of it being repairable

it's not on the sidewall, but stuck into the undertread rather than the tread, why I am a bit suspicious it can be repaired

Anything in the centre 3/4's of the tread can be repaired as long as its not too big a hole. If its just a screw and within the limits it will be repaired no problem.

should be repairable. The size of the patch on the mushroom is about 3" dia. Take it to a fast fit place, they will tell you. Kwik fit is £22.50 for repair, new valve and balance. A repair will not change the performance of the tyre dude
