Wheel bearings...?
« on: 10 August 2012, 21:15 »
Pretty sure my rear drivers side needs replacing, as it's sounds like a tumble drier when I'm on the motorway!

Question's: Is it worth saving a few pennies with forum discount n buying from ECP rather than dealers?
Is it worth doing both sides at the same time?
Not including parts, what sort of price am I looking at for the job?

Thanks in advance

Buy at ECP's

No need to do both sides.

Got tools? Do it at home. No special tools needed its a piece of piss to fit and will take you an hour.

Garage should charge no more than an hour.

Diamond!

I prefer doing jobs myself if I can... Roughly what's needed?

Remember now you need a puller or a grinder and chisel to get the inner race of the bearing off apart from than its just spanners and a socket set.

I always thought that with bearings, you needed a press?
Sure its not the rear tyres.......

It's def not that. For one, the tread is even, n two, I hear it at all speeds, with the pitch increasing the faster I go. Cheers for the suggestion though Rich

Yes but he's asking about the rear ones. Plus you can use a vice to press the front ones in. Done both my front ones fine using a vice and a chisel to smash the inner race off.

I had a look on ECP n the rear bearings that they sell are with the hub for £60 odd. I thought you could just buy the bearing itself?
