My Rant

My car was booked in for a service but as i am not able to get the time of work i thought that i would get it picked up for the service as it was less hassle.

The near side drivers tweeter needed to be fixed as well as it was making a crackling noise.

When i got a call from VW they said that they werent able to hear anything from it and the guy that picked it up also said he didn't hear anything. so i asked them to check again and still there was nothing. so they sent the car back to me. when i got the car back i noticed that the reserve light was on which was strange as i am sure i still had just under 1/4 of tank left in it and i know that the round trip was only 13miles. I looked at the consumption and it was just below the 19mpg mark. This annoyed me as now will have to wait 30mins in a cue to fill up the car as there is not enough fuel to get me home. also the cracking came back straight away. (the guy probably could hear it over the engine noise)

was not happy with any of this as now i have to change my plans and go baq on the weekend to get the speaker sorted out.

Could it be that i am just being picky or do i have a right to be angry?

I'd place a call to the Service Manager and ratinoally explain your concerns to him

(always help to have these in a list on a bit of paper first)

Also, what do you expect from them?

Collect at your convenience and repair said tweeter?
Top up of fuel? etc.

Above all, keep calm and explain that you are so disappointed with their service today.
(not sure if you'll get a VW survery but last time I raised a similar issue of work not being done and got a phone call offering to sort this - whatever it takes!)

I'd be fuming and I'd also demand on talking to the driver face to face too, put it right on his toes! Let's not forget though some mechanics have a nasty habit of leaving the engine running too. Personally I reset the trip and also make a point of observing what fuel is, plus never let some clown pick my car up.

Thats my name. lol

well on average it was at about 33mpg as i do city driving mainly and thats since i had the car (3months). I know the route the guy took and he should of been getting similar or better fuel economy to what i normally get.

My main issue is the lack of respect he has shown to a customers car. I would not want him handling my mothers golf as she would not notice these things and if he were to have an accident it would cause a massive inconvenience to me.

Just spoke to someone at VW and they are adamant that he is a responsible driver and they are just trying to cover their own back! i gave them all the evidence and they are i complete denial!

I know i had at least another 50 - 60miles of fuel in the car as i was keeping an eye on how many miles a full tank of fuel would get me. also the trip resets after the car has been off for an hour or so.

In 7miles he average 21mpg on the return journey. this is at about 14:30 so there isn't any traffic and roads are dual carriage ways so not that much stopping and starting.

The tweeter issue i will just have to sort out but will not be taking it there!

Go on record in writing then forward their response to VW UK, you might at least get a tank of juice. I had a similar experience when I picked mine up after having the rear diffuser painted. I instructed them not to clean her, which they didn't. However they did leave the drivers door card with a massive foot print on it - was fecking fuming! They did however ask what I wanted as a sorry and I requested a massive bunch of flowers for the wife.

Agree with Ginge. I always make sure that I have recorded the mileage upon handing the keys over. In a previous car (Nissan) the dealership added on 65 miles in the space of 7 hours !!
So, complained, and got next service free and a full tank of fuel. I'm sure I could have got more if I escalated my fury, but couldn't be bothered !

You didn't happen to notice the recorded time for the last journey? As it would add weight to your argument that he horsed it back from the dealers.

I've started to take a pick of the miles / fuel on my phone now before I drop my car off anywhere as its proof and easy done.

Sorry but I'd never let anyone come pick my car up or return it.
1 Because you don't know how their driving it etc
2 I never park anywhere near another car and just know when they take the car back to the dealers, they would probably shoehorn the car in to the tiniest of spaces which would completely stress me out!!!
